The finishing process begins as soon as the metal castings are knocked out from the moulds. The castings will have joint flash and sand residue still on them.
First they are cleaned either by sandblasting or shot-blasting to remove the sand residue.
Once this is complete they are fettled, this means grinding all rough edges and flash from the casting to give a smooth finish.
The castings are then ready for collection unless the customer has specified extra work such as machining and/or priming and painting.
Some items manufactured are finished completely such as Lamp standards, Garden furniture etc.
