Metal Casting
The work of preparing patterns, moulds and cores culminates in the metals casting process in which all members of staff work as a team to complete.
The furnace is prepared on the day prior to casting and when the necessary conditions are met the work of pouring the molten metal into the prepared moulds commences.
The molten metal is firstly drawn off into a pot (which can be of various sizes depending on the size of the castings to be made). A hoist lifts the the pot over the mould and the metal is poured. The process continues until all the moulds for the week have been filled.
After cooling, the moulds are broken and the cast metal is sent for finishing.
